Guyana

CCC began ministry in Guyana in 1947 when the country was still Under British rule. When Guyana gained independence from the British in 1966, it began a twenty year flirtation with Marxism which effectively alienated it from the free world. Under Communist rule, Guyana literally dropped out of the world market, the standard of living plummeted and it became one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere. Today the country is slowly moving towards political and economic stability.

The church in Guyana has felt the effects of years of political and economic upheaval through massive migration of the Guyanese to other countries. CCC currently has seven churches and three full-time pastors ministering in three areas of the country.

The co-operative republic of Guyana lies on the Northeast corner of South America. It borders Venezuela to the west, Brazil to the south and Suriname to the east. Its coastal area, which is below sea level, houses 95% of its population. Guyana is 83,000 square miles with a population of approximately 750,000.

Pray that…

  • For the country of Guyana and its many racial problems, crime and severe economic problems
  • the ministry to the Muslim and Hindu populations.

Their community has a heavy Islamic influence yet they are making a difference for Christ. Apart from Prem’s pastoral responsibilities, his ministry is to focus on evangelism working in the rural parts of the community and in the public school.
