Fine Arts at CCC

Since its founding in 1898, Christ Community Church has had a tradition of commitment to the arts ministries. Preserving this tradition is so important to us that it is the second of our five vision statements:

We see our church as a center for the arts, enriching the wider body of Christ through God-glorifying music and drama.

Over the years, our fine arts ministries have grown and changed, but have always existed to glorify God.

Sanctuary Choir

The Sanctuary Choir rehearses Wednesdays at 7:00-9:00 pm.

This adult choir of 40-60 men and women participates in our worship services from September through June. The Sanctuary Choir has always enjoyed presenting a wide variety of music–from traditional to contemporary arrangements.

But the choir is not all about work – there are many opportunities for social activity including monthly “choir coffees” following choir rehearsal where they take the time to hang out, and of course, eat! They also hold an annual choir picnic, as well as various other social events. Most importantly, they spend a portion of each two-hour rehearsal in devotions and prayer.

The director of the Sanctuary Chor is Mr. Dean LaBelle. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Singers are encouraged to join – ability to read music is not required!

Worship Team

The Worship Team rehearses each Thursday evening at 7:00 pm and participates in the Sunday worship service.  If you are interested in serving the Lord in this way, please contact Dean LaBelle.

Bell Choirs

The Children’s Bell Choir rehearses Mondays at 5:45 pm before AWANA.
The Adult Bell Choir rehearses Thursdays from 7 to 8:30 pm.

Under the leadership of Bette Jo Ohmstead, the long-standing adult bell choir was joined by a children’s bell choir in 1996. Both choirs participate in worship services, and at times accompany the Sanctuary choir. The bell choir has 4 octaves of Schulmerich handbells and 3 octaves of Whitechapel handbells. The music the bell choir plays is varied as to style and technique.

Children’s Choirs

Although they don’t meet regularly,  children’s choirs are organized for special occasions, such as Mother’s Day or Father’s Day, Easter or Christmas. Children of all ages are invited to participate, and usually rehearse at the end of the Sunday School hour.

Special Events

To minister to the wider body of Christ, as well as to our own body, we have enjoyed hosting a variety of guest artists,  as well as organ recitals  on the magnificent Welte-Tripp pipe organ with which we have been blessed.
