You may be wondering what this “Gospel” is that we’re talking about at Christ Community Church. We’d love to explain what we mean.
The Bible is a wonderful book. It is God’s message to mankind, and it contains everything that we need to know to live our lives in the way the Creator intended (2 Timothy 3:16-17). There are countless truths and principals for us to learn and live by which are found in the Bible. But if you were to boil everything down to its most basic message, the Bible says these three things:
First, the Bible says that mankind has a problem called Sin. Sin is any action or attitude that does not meet God’s perfect standard. There is no question that we all have this problem called sin (Romans 3:23). The Bible also teaches us that there is a consequence for sin–sin separates us from God (Habakkuk 1:13). In fact, the Bible tells us that the end result of sin in death(Romans 6:23).
Second, the Bible says that there is a solution to the problem of sin. The solution is found in the person of Jesus Christ (Romans 6:23). The Bible tells us that God loved us so much so much that he sent Jesus to die in our place (John 3:16). Jesus paid the penalty of our sin so that we would not have to be separated from him forever (1 John 4:10). The Bible tells us that Jesus is the only solution to our sin problem (John 14:6).
Third, the Bible expects a decision from us. It is not enough to know about Jesus Christ and his death on the cross. We must choose to put our trust in Christ. God’s gift of salvation is waiting for us when we believe (John 1:12). All of us have the problem of sin. There is only one solution to the problem–the person of Jesus Christ. His life, death and resurrection promise to bring salvation and a new life. But everyone must decide…
What will you decide about Jesus Christ?
If you realize that you have a need for a Savior, you too can trust in Jesus. When you trust that what God said about Jesus is true, then you can become a child of God and have eternal life. All you need to do now is commit your life to God by acknowledging your need for a Savior and asking Jesus to take control of your life. Like a loving Father, God longs for you to come back to him.
God wants to forgive you and restore you and begin to have a relationship with you. If you acknowledge your sinfulness, repent and return to him, you can begin your new relationship now (Isaiah 1:18-19).
Jesus is calling you to come to him (Mathew 11:28-30). All he wants you to do is make a commitment to him. You can begin your new relationship with God and acknowledge your commitment to him by saying a prayer like this one:
Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I have sinned against you and others. You have every right to demand that I pay for my sin. But, because of your great love, your son Jesus paid the penalty of my sin. Thank you for sending him to be my Savior. I repent of my sins. Please forgive me. I put myself under your authority. Clothe me with the righteousness of Jesus and allow your Spirit to begin to develop love, peace, joy, kindness, gentleness and purity in my life. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, my new Savior, Amen.
If you prayed this prayer or one like it…
We want to make it clear that by trusting in Jesus, you have not become part of any religion or even of any church like Christ Community Church. What you have done is begun a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ, as we have done at Christ Community Church.
The moment you decided to trust Jesus you became a new person. The Bible calls that experience being born again (John 3:5-7). It marks the beginning of your new relationship with him. The Bible also says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
